Addiction Counselling in South Delhi

Dependency rarely begins as a problem. It usually begins as a solution — something that worked to manage stress, numb pain, quiet anxiety or make social situations bearable. It becomes a problem when the solution starts costing more than it gives.

Understanding Your Healing Journey

Treatment & Support

Withdrawal from alcohol and from some drugs can be medically dangerous and occasionally life-threatening. If you are physically dependent, do not stop suddenly without medical supervision. Counselling supports recovery — it does not replace medical detox, psychiatric care or a rehabilitation programme where those are needed.

This service is best suited to people who are not in acute crisis: those considering change, those already in or after a treatment programme, and those managing behavioural dependencies.

What Is Worked With

Alcohol dependency, smoking and tobacco, and substance use are addressed alongside behavioural patterns such as compulsive phone and social media use, gambling, and compulsive spending. The common thread is a behaviour that has become automatic and is now doing damage.

The Approach

Sessions begin with what the dependency is managing. Almost always there is something underneath — anxiety, depression, unresolved grief, trauma, or a period of sustained stress. Removing the behaviour without addressing that leaves the person without a coping strategy, which is why relapse is so common.

Clinical hypnotherapy is used to work with cravings and the automatic elements of the pattern. EFT tapping and relaxation techniques help with the physical restlessness of early change. Counselling addresses the life circumstances and relationships around it.

Support for Families

Dependency affects the whole household. Family members are often exhausted, angry and unsure whether they are helping or enabling. Family sessions are available, whether or not the person with the dependency is ready to seek help themselves.

What a First Session Involves

An honest picture rather than a confrontation. What the substance or behaviour does for you, when it changed, what has already been tried, and what you actually want — which is not always abstinence at the outset, and does not need to be before help can begin.

You will not be required to accept a label. For some people that framework is genuinely useful; for others it is the obstacle that kept them away for years. What matters more is a straight assessment of where things stand.

Why Willpower Is the Wrong Frame

Addiction is not primarily a failure of character, and treating it as one is a large part of why people conceal it until the position is much worse. Sustained use changes the reward and stress systems in ways that make stopping genuinely harder than it is for someone who has not been there, which is a physiological statement rather than an excuse.

What that means practically is that shame is not a treatment. It is one of the most reliable predictors of relapse, and reducing it is part of the work rather than a softness added to it.

Relapse

Worth saying plainly, because the expectation of a single clean stop is what breaks most attempts. Relapse is common and it is not a return to the starting point — it is information about which situation, feeling or setting is not yet covered by the plan. Treating it as total failure reliably makes the next attempt harder.

Questions & Answers

Everything you need to know before booking your first session.

Is this confidential?+

Yes. Sessions are private and confidential, and are held in a separate consulting space. Confidentiality and its limits are explained clearly in the first session.

Can you help if the person does not want help?+

Not directly — counselling requires the person's own participation. What is possible is working with the family: how to respond, where the boundary sits between supporting and enabling, and how to look after yourselves while someone you love is unwell.

Do I have to stop completely before starting?+

No. Many people begin while still using, and the early work is often about clarifying whether and how they want to change. Arriving undecided is a legitimate starting point.

Is this the same as rehab?+

No. This is outpatient counselling, typically weekly. It works well before, alongside or after a residential programme, but it is not a substitute for one where medical supervision is required.

Do I have to accept that I am an addict?+

No. That framework helps some people considerably and is a barrier for others. The work does not depend on adopting it.

Is it safe to stop on my own?+

Not always. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal in particular can be dangerous and sometimes life-threatening, and need medical supervision. Get medical advice before stopping abruptly if your use is heavy and daily.

Can families get support even if the person will not come?+

Yes, and it is often where useful change starts. Family sessions cover how to respond without either enabling or escalating, and how to look after yourself while living alongside it.
