What Anxiety Actually Looks Like
It is not always visible as worry. Frequently it arrives as body first and thought second:
Many people arrive able to describe the symptoms in detail and unable to name a cause. That is normal, and finding the cause is not always necessary to change the pattern.
- «Chest tightness, a racing heart, or breathing that feels shallow and incomplete
- «Stomach trouble that has been investigated and found to have no physical cause
- «Sleep that will not come because the mind starts up at the moment the lights go off
- «Irritability that is out of proportion and then produces guilt
- «Avoidance that has quietly narrowed your life — fewer invitations accepted, fewer drives taken
- «Exhaustion, because sustained vigilance is metabolically expensive

How the Work Is Done
There is no single method applied to everyone. In practice the work usually combines three things.
Talking, to understand what the anxiety is responding to and what maintains it. Some anxiety is a reasonable response to circumstances that need to change rather than a malfunction to be corrected.
Body-level work, because anxiety is a physiological state and cannot be reasoned away while the body is still in it. Breathing and somatic techniques come first for most people, because they produce something usable in the first week.
Clinical hypnotherapy, where the pattern is stubborn or attached to a specific trigger. Phobias and panic in particular respond well.
Where useful, EFT and energy work are available too. The mix is decided with you, not applied to you.

Panic Attacks
Panic deserves separate mention because it is so frequently misread. A panic attack is a false alarm from a system designed to save your life — a surge of adrenaline that produces racing heart, breathlessness, tingling hands, and a powerful conviction that you are dying or losing your mind.
It is not dangerous, it peaks within about ten minutes, and understanding the mechanism reduces the frequency on its own, because much of what sustains panic is fear of the panic.
If you have not had chest symptoms checked medically, do that first. Ruling out a cardiac cause is part of treating this properly, not a formality.

Working Across the Time Difference
Sessions with Australian clients are typically scheduled in the Australian evening, which is late afternoon or early evening in Delhi. Perth is easiest at two and a half hours' difference; eastern states run four and a half to five and a half hours ahead depending on daylight saving.
Evening slots suit anxiety work reasonably well, though if your anxiety is worst first thing in the morning it is sometimes worth a weekend morning session to work with it live.

What This Does Not Replace
Counselling is not a substitute for a GP. If your anxiety is severe, if you are not sleeping at all, if you have lost significant weight, or if there is any thought of harming yourself, you need a doctor in Australia, and a Mental Health Treatment Plan through your GP will also get you Medicare-rebated sessions with a registered psychologist there.
There is no conflict between that and this work. Plenty of clients do both.

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
How quickly will I notice a difference?+
Most people leave the first session with at least one technique that helps in the moment. Structural change — the anxiety stopping rather than being managed — usually takes longer, commonly six to twelve sessions depending on how long the pattern has run.
Is online as effective as sitting in a room?+
For anxiety, research puts video counselling on a par with in-person work. It also removes a genuine obstacle: for socially anxious clients, leaving the house to attend a clinic is itself part of the problem.
Are you a registered psychologist in Australia?+
No. Psychologist is a protected title in Australia under AHPRA. Taanya works with Australian clients as a holistic counsellor and clinical hypnotherapist, with an Australian-accredited counselling diploma and AHHA membership.
Should I come off my medication?+
That is a decision for your prescriber and nobody else. Do not stop or reduce psychiatric medication because a counsellor is involved. Many people do therapy and medication together and that is a perfectly ordinary arrangement.
What if I need urgent help?+
Online counselling across time zones is not suitable for a crisis. In Australia, call 000 in an emergency, Lifeline on 13 11 14, or Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636.
