Treatment & Support

Why Hypnotherapy Travels Well Over Video
In-person hypnotherapy asks you to relax deeply in an unfamiliar room, with a person you met twenty minutes ago, in a chair that is not yours. Online removes all of that. You are in your own home, in your own chair, with your own blanket if you want one.
In practice people go under more easily at home than in a clinic. The work itself is unchanged: the induction is spoken, the suggestions are spoken, and your responses are spoken or signalled. Nothing in that requires the therapist to be in the room.
What it does require is forty minutes where nobody will knock on the door, headphones so the voice is close and clear, and a device that will not run out of battery mid-session.

What Australian Clients Come For
Some come for a single issue and finish in three or four sessions. Others start with one thing and find that something underneath it is the actual subject.
- «Quitting smoking and vaping, where willpower has already been tried and has already failed
- «Weight and emotional eating, particularly where the pattern is stress-driven rather than dietary
- «Anxiety, panic and the physical symptoms that come with them
- «Phobias — flying, needles, dentists, driving, lifts
- «Sleep, including the loop where lying awake becomes its own source of dread
- «Confidence before a specific event: a presentation, an exam, a court appearance, a wedding

What Hypnotherapy Is Not
You do not lose consciousness, you do not lose control, and you cannot be made to do anything you would refuse to do awake. Stage hypnosis has done real damage to public understanding of this, and it is worth setting straight before you book rather than after.
Hypnotherapy is also not a treatment for psychosis, bipolar disorder in an acute phase, or severe dissociation. If any of those apply, say so at the outset and you will be told honestly whether this is appropriate.
It is not a substitute for medical care. If you are on medication, stay on it and speak to your prescriber before changing anything.

Credentials and What They Mean in Australia
Taanya holds certification as a Clinical Hypnotherapist alongside an MA in Counselling Psychology, and a Diploma in Holistic Healing and Counselling from the Holistic Living Training Institute in Melbourne, which is Australian accredited. She is a certified member of AHHA, the Australian Holistic Healers Association.
She is not registered with AHPRA and does not practise as an Australian psychologist — psychologist is a protected title in Australia. With Australian clients she works as a clinical hypnotherapist and holistic counsellor. If you specifically need a registered psychologist or a Medicare rebate, you need an AHPRA-registered practitioner based in Australia.

Session Timing
Australian eastern time runs four and a half to five and a half hours ahead of India depending on daylight saving; Perth is two and a half hours ahead. An early-evening slot in Delhi lands late evening in Sydney and Melbourne, and mid-evening in Perth, which is where most sessions end up.
A hypnotherapy session runs longer than a counselling hour — allow ninety minutes for the first one. Afterwards most people want to sit quietly for a few minutes rather than jump straight into something else, so it is worth not booking anything immediately after.

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
Does hypnotherapy work as well online as in person?+
For most people, yes, and for some it works better — you relax more readily somewhere familiar than in a clinic room. What matters more than the medium is whether you are undisturbed and can hear clearly, so use headphones and a room with a door.
How many sessions will I need?+
A single focused issue such as a phobia or smoking often takes three to five sessions. Patterns with a longer history take longer. You will be given an honest estimate after the first session rather than sold a package before it.
Is hypnotherapy regulated in Australia?+
No. Hypnotherapy is not a registered profession under AHPRA, so anyone may use the title. Ask any practitioner what they trained in, how long the training was, and who accredited it — including this one.
Can I claim this on Medicare or private health cover?+
No. Medicare rebates require a referral to an AHPRA-registered practitioner in Australia. A few private funds cover hypnotherapy from recognised providers; check with your fund directly rather than assume.
What if I do not go under?+
Very few people are genuinely unhypnotisable, but plenty expect a dramatic loss of awareness and then conclude it did not work because they heard everything. Hearing everything is normal. Depth is not the point; response is.
What if I need urgent help?+
Cross-time-zone online work is not suitable for a crisis. If you are in immediate distress or at risk, call 000, or Lifeline on 13 11 14, which operates twenty-four hours a day across Australia.
