Treatment & Support

It Is Rarely About Crashing
Most people assume their fear is of the aircraft failing. When examined, it usually turns out to be something else, and identifying which one changes the treatment.
Someone whose real fear is confinement gets very little from statistics about aviation safety. That mismatch is why reassurance so often fails.
- «Loss of control — being unable to influence anything for several hours
- «Confinement, which is claustrophobia rather than aviophobia and is treated differently
- «Panic about having a panic attack somewhere with no exit
- «Heights, in a minority of cases
- «Turbulence specifically, where the fear is of an unpredictable sensation rather than of the flight
- «A previous bad flight, or a frightening event that happened to coincide with flying

How It Is Treated
- «Working out which fear it actually is, which the first session establishes
- «Hypnotherapy to change the subconscious association between the aircraft and danger
- «IEMT, which is particularly effective where a specific bad flight is still driving the response
- «EFT, which you can use in the departure lounge and in the seat
- «Practical understanding of what turbulence is and what the noises mean, which helps considerably where the fear is of the unknown
- «Breathing and grounding techniques that work in a confined seat without anyone noticing
- «A plan for the flight itself, including what to do when the fear rises

Working to a Deadline
Many people arrive with a flight already booked, sometimes a fortnight away. That is a workable timeframe for this particular fear, and short focused work before a specific date is common.
Longer-term work is better if you want flying to become genuinely unremarkable rather than survivable. Both are legitimate goals, and which one you want is worth deciding at the start.

Questions & Answers
Everything you need to know before booking your first session.
I have a flight in two weeks. Is that enough time?+
Usually yes for meaningful improvement. Specific phobias respond faster than most anxiety problems, and two or three focused sessions before a flight often make a substantial difference.
What about medication or alcohol for the flight?+
Alcohol tends to make anxiety worse afterwards and interferes with the work. Prescribed medication is a matter for your doctor. Neither addresses the fear itself, which is what this work is for.
Does knowing the statistics help?+
Rarely, on its own. Most people with this fear already know flying is statistically very safe. The fear is not held in the part of the mind that responds to statistics, which is why information alone does not shift it.
What if my fear is really claustrophobia?+
Then that gets treated, and the flying improves as a consequence. Establishing this early matters, because treating the wrong fear is why previous attempts often failed.
Can this be done online?+
Yes. Hypnotherapy, EFT and IEMT all transfer well to video sessions.
